Classic Game of the Issue
by Mark Klocek
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today's classic game is IK+ on the Amiga
This is certainly one of the all time great beat em ups. Revolutionary features
at the time which have only just started to filter through include the ace bonus
games, changeable speed, 3 players on screen at once (still can't be found) and
it is realistic, you can't jump over enemies and you can't lob fireballs.
This is my fave beat em up on all the 8-bit computers (I had an Amstrad CPC) and
certainly is near the top on the Amiga. This wondergame also works on EVERY
Amiga, and is certainly worth buying on budget.
There is a fantastic learning curve, so you can get nearer to the ultimate goal
of a black belt. The lack of a credits system, the fact that your enemies are
always the same (only gradually improved) and you are fighting two computer
opponents at once means that the game relies on ability and not patience in
allowing you to get far (I once spent an hour and half trying to complete M.
Bison in Streetfighter 2 on the SNES at its hardest level until I succeeded).
The game has got style, doesn't take ridiculous amounts of disk swapping and is
certainly in my top 50 all time favourite games that you should really try to
find it (on any machine its been well converted to them all).
